Editorial Review for Sunken Forest – by Dave Cooksey
Overview
This 40-acre forest is a truly remarkable natural area and is great for spending a day out of the sun. The National Park Service manages this unique area, one of the last remaining maritime forests on the eastern seaboard. Rangers offer limited tours along the boardwalk that winds through the forest, which are perfect for children and grown-ups alike.
Facts
In the middle of the forest is a large deck with benches perfect for contemplation or a picnic (the Sunken Forest is a carry-in/carry-out park--so pack lightly). If staying the day, there are restrooms, and cold-water showers for those who wish to spend time swimming and sunbathing on the beach. You can also enjoy bird watching, hiking, interpretive programs and nature walks.
