Overview
The island's largest community attracts all kinds. During the day the town is packed full of children and parents running errands, eating at local restaurants or enjoying ice cream. At night, the town belongs to the young men and women who take over the bars and restaurants. Ocean Beach is less quaint than some of the other island communities, with paved walkways, lots of bicycles and even more pedestrians. But it also has the most restaurants, shops and even a movie theater (perfect for a rainy day).
Facts
Be sure to brush up on local laws and obey them--penalties for public drinking are stiff. Know that bicycle riding in the town limits is prohibited Friday night through Sunday (you'll have to walk your bike through). And if spending the night in a hotel, be sure to ask how close you will be to the bars, as they get rowdy on weekend nights.
