The Scene
Like so many of the area's hotels, this property started life as a rooming house. In fact, it's one of the oldest hotels in town, and it accommodated Arthur Silsdorf before he became mayor of Ocean Beach for 22 years running. The glory days are long gone, and this is now a simple hotel with spartan accommodations.
The Details
The 12 rooms are sparse, and it's just as well as chances are you'll spend the day at the beach. And you'll also want to stay out all night, since the music from the attached Housers Bar will keep you wide awake unless you have industrial-strength earplugs. One of the island's best restaurants, Hideaway, is right nearby the hotel and overlooks the bay, making it a picturesque spot to nibble on seafood and watch the seagulls go by.
